Liberty & Justice For All: Bernard Hopkins vs. Morrade Hakkar
Philadelphia, PA
160 lbs
Frank Cappuccino
WBC/WBA/IBF Middleweight Championship
Undisputed Middleweight Champion Bernard Hopkins enters the ring for the first time in more than a year since failing to come to an agreement to face Roy Jones Jr. when he defends his titles in his hometown of Philadelphia. His challenge comes in the form of hopeless contender Morrade Hakkar, who runs from Hopkins the entire first round of the fight. He later takes a knee to avoid punishment in round six, but Hopkins chooses to taunt him rather than head to a neutral corner, allowing Hakkar to beat the count. Referee Frank Cappuccino strangely waves off two more knockdowns in the seventh round, but Hakkar finally gets out of the fight when his promoter stops the fight after the eighth round.
