IBF Super Featherweight Championship
In the best fight of 1996, IBF Super Featherweight Champion Arturo Gatti pulls off a shocking comeback against Wilson Rodriguez. Down on a combination in round two and with both eyes swelling shut, Gatti is told by his cutman Joe Souza that he is out of time. Gatti rallies to hurt Rodriguez in round three but is badly hurt himself in the fourth. Between rounds, the ringside doctor nearly stops the fight as Gatti attempts to cheat through a brief medical examination. Gatti is docked a point for low blows in round five but puts the challenger on his knees with a clean body shot moments later. A climactic left hook from Gatti puts Rodriguez down for good in the sixth and ends one of the most dramatic fights in history.
