WBA Light Welterweight World Title (Cervantes's 2nd defence)
"Junior welterweight titleholder Antonio (Kid Pambele) Cervantes, Columbia, successfully defended his crown by clearly outpointing Puerto Rican Josue Marquez in 15 rounds. Although the decision was announced as a split verdict when one of the judges scored it for Marquez, in the eyes of the over 9,000 fans present there was no doubt as to the winner. Marquez fought a defensive battle throughout, maintaining himself out of reach, backpedaling most of the time and fought only in brief spurts. He did surprise his opponent in the 3rd round by dropping him with a short left hook, which the imported Venezuelan referee judged a slip. Pambele made up for this by scoring a knockdown in the 15th when he was finally able to catch up to his evasive opponent." -Ring magazine, May 1973 issue
