Allan Green vs. Glen Johnson
Las Vegas, NV
168 lbs
Robert Byrd
Glen Johnson once again lives up to his reputation of being willing to fight anyone at any time when he drops down to 168 pounds to fill in for Andre Dirrell in the Super Six World Boxing Classic after Dirrell pulls out due to an undisclosed injury. Johnson faces fellow alternate, friend and former sparring partner Allan Green in what is officially Group Stage 3 of the tournament and hurts him on several occasions, including at the end of the third round in which Green is badly discombobulated. He eventually punches his ticket to the semifinals by dropping Green on his face with a pair of right hands at the beginning of the eighth round. Green wastes time arguing with Referee Robert Byrd about the punch being behind the head and fails to get to his feet before the count of ten.
