Fighting on the undercard of the bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Victor Ortiz, Saul Alvarez makes the second defense of his WBC Super Welterweight Championship against Alfonso Gomez. A jab from Alvarez drops Gomez in the opening round, but the challenger comes back to land clean right hands in the third. In the sixth round, Alvarez frees Gomez with an uppercut and a right hand. When Gomez wobbles back, Alvarez attacks on the ropes, and Referee Wayne Hedgpeth jumps in a little too early to stop the fight.
