Freedom Hall, Louisville, Kentucky, USA

Associated Press - October 6, 1961: Cassius Clay. in serious trouble during the early rounds, came back in the sixth Saturday night to score a technical knockout over rugged Alex Miteff in a televised fight from Freedom Hall. It was the ninth consecutive victory for Clay, who came into the fight 22 pounds lighter than his hard-punching opponent from New York. Miteff, bleeding from a cut on the nose, had the former Olympic champion backing away from him constantly through the first two rounds with his punishing body attack. Miteff, who had carried the fight to his 19-year-old opponent, dropped his guard as the sixth round opened and Clay poured in a barrage of rights and lefts. Clay stopped a right and a left to the head, then sent across a sizzling right that dumped Miteff to the floor. Referee Don Asbury stopped the fight at that point, 1:45 of the sixth round of the scheduled 10-rounder, when it became obvious Miteff was in no shape to continue....The judges' cards were split at the end of the fifth round. Two had Clay ahead by a small margin while the other judge had Miteff in front. The Associated Press card had Clay in front.
